In just one afternoon....

.... I cleared the brassica patch,

rough dug it, rough manured it (is there any other way?), chopped the manure in and transplanted:

Garlic - Christo
Garlic - Thermidor, and
Shallots - Jermor

All of them were started in the greenhouse in November and sat in a big sulk for nearly three months before they did anything at all. But they look good now; fingers crossed that they stay that way! When I'm transplanting I always try to make sure the plant doesn't know it's left home. Usually it works!

And look at the Lovage;

and the Rhubarb.
It's my signal of Spring, when the Lovage comes back.

And don't the raspberries look good,

every one of them wrapped up in it's own personal pile of manure. Just what the doctor ordered.

Oh this looks fab! It's going to be a good while before my patch looks anything like yours!!! If you have a bit of time, pop over and have a look at mine - I'd really appreciate any tips!

We've actually made a start too - catching up on all the things we should have done ages ago!

It's looking good Woody - and your rhubarb is way bigger than mine!

I'm manure shovelling again today too!

Looks impressive - particularly to a newbie like me just embarking. Good to see someone else using hose hoops for crop protection.

Thansk Nutty; can't beat time spent shovelling it can you!

Thanks Janet; those hose hoops are brilliant & I've seen lots of people using them now. I peg a length of netting into the ground at one side, same again at the other side, then bring the free sides up to the apex of the hoop and use ordinary clothes pegs to keep them together. Easy to do and easy to remove for weeding/harvesting. What's not to like?!!

Oh, that is a genius tip, I have a single piece of fleece pegged down over mine, your way makes so much more sense - plus narrow strips are cheaper ;-)

Looking good, I'm envious of your rhubarb!

Love the manure blankets - not sure what that says about me...
