You wanna Courgette???

I've got 27 to spare.

Yes, the annual courgette glut is in full swing. Industrial quantities of ratatouille are being made (fermented?).

The gherkin glut is just beginning (a mere 13 today). Do I like gherkins? I don't know actually; I've never knowingly eaten one, and I guess I would know if I'd eaten one - they don't look the sort of chap you could eat by accident or without knowing about it!! But I saw this packet of seeds for East European Gherkins and thought they sounded worth a go. I guess I'll like them soon? What do you do with gherkins? Pickle them? Advice please. Save me from myself and the gherkin monster.

We also got the first of this year's runner beans today,

so that glut will be on the way soon. And then there'll be the climbing French. Good job we like them.

And finally, for all you cornflower lovers, here's a pic of the cornflower hedge

and the Bishop of Llandaff.

He's such a poser; gets in everywhere.

haha - still can't believe you knowingly planted THAT many courgettes hahah. There's a courgette & chickpea pie recipe somewhere on my blog from Nigella :)

Yes, others have made that comment, he said ruefully!

I see it as a challenge to get them all used up and we're steadily working our way through the various suggestions, but I can recommend this:

Oh and courgette cakes (sweet not savoury this time) (Nigella recipe).

Oh and gherkins, pickle them. Nothing else.

Still waiting for our first dahlia to flower and runner beans to pick. Plenty of courgettes though.

Never grown gherkins but I have only ever heard of them being pickled - maybe some in piccallili?

You could have courgette and gherkin pickle :)

I'm still drooling over Whitby kippers!!!

I learnt the hard way about the productivity of courgette plants too :D

Pickle the gherkins and save a jar for me - I love 'em!

Why didn't my Bishop of Llandaff put in an apearance?!I suspect he drowned in the 3 day long deluge that started just after I'd planted him...poor little sod never stood a chance!

Arr, he are a capricious little so-and-so that Bishop of Llandaff. Some years he just won't come out from behind the woodshed, at all.

Send me some of your courgettes, this year I have only grown one! Not one plant, one courgette (not sure how I managed to be that rubbish).

I had courgette cake the other day which was great. To be honest I'm giving already giving away and few and we eat them every other day off just 5 plants!
