Massive strimmage yesterday left it reasonably tidy but today saw a major dig-out of one of my many bindweed plantations. I got two barrowloads of bindweed out of one bed. But it was worth it; I was able to plant the first batch of salad leaves. Red Cos, Green Salad Bowl & Lollo Rossa lettuce, along with some Pac Choi, all suitably pigeon-proofed.
Rest of it doesn't look too bad either, if you ignore the big pile of manky old sticks due for burning.
This weekend our clearout was couch grass. Keeps you busy and out of trouble!
ReplyDeleteBet that bindweed returns!!!
ReplyDeletePity bindweed and couch grass are inedible
ReplyDeleteEy-up Woody, it's all looking good and I'm REALLY envying you that gorgeous greenhouse!
ReplyDeleteCan I borrow you to come and dig up the bindweed in my new border please?!
Thanks Nutty but even your silver-tongued flattery can't tempt me to dig up yet more bindweed!
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty good to me.
ReplyDeleteYour salad bed is extensively bird-proofed, so I assume you've got a real problem with our feathered friends? We don't suffer much in spring but through the winter they are fiends for brassicas.
ReplyDeleteThe pigeons are truly awful. We can't plant brassicas out without protection; they just strip them overnight. They've been known to do the same to peas and beans.
